Can you tell us about the moment when you realized that music was your calling?
Stepping away from music about 15 years ago had a bigger impact on my mental well-being than I initially understood. I didn't immediately notice, but not having an outlet for my creativity was actually bringing me down. It's like a part of me was missing. Getting back into it in 2017, this time on my own terms as a solo artist, has honestly been a breath of fresh air. I feel like myself again, and I might even say it's brought me the greatest joy I've ever experienced.
Can you share an instance where a personal experience deeply influenced your music?
My 2nd album, titled "HEALED," dives deeply into my personal journey of navigating through divorce and embracing my role as a part-time dad. Creating this collection of songs was both a challenging and therapeutic experience for me.
Can you describe the challenges you've faced in your journey and how you overcame them?
My age has been the biggest obstacle I think. Coming back to music at a mature age, I’ve often seen my music overlooked, as I don't fit into a particular box with many parts of the industry.
Can you share a moment in your musical journey that has brought you the most joy or fulfillment, and explain why it stands out for you?
Performing songs from my first album in front of a live audience was absolutely the highlight of my last six years. There's really nothing like feeling the immediate response and energy from the crowd.
What's one thing about the music industry you wish you knew when you were starting out?
I really wish I had taken more time between releasing each song. That way, I could have made sure every track had the opportunity to really resonate with more folks in the industry and potential fans. This has been my biggest regret.
Can you share an experience where your music had an impact on the community or a social cause?
In everything I put out there, I always make a point to shine a spotlight on the charity I hold dear, LOVEBUTTON.ORG. When I send notes to my supporters, I always include a little "LOVE" badge as a reminder. I even talk about the charity in my videos. I truly hope that through these small gestures, I'm helping to make a positive change in some way.
Can you give us a sneak peek into any upcoming projects or directions you're exploring in your music?
I'm super excited to share with you my latest song, "Take Me Back". It's the third track I'm releasing from my forthcoming album, "NOTHING CHANGES IF NOTHING CHANGES". I'm working hard to get the whole album out to you by 2024. Can't wait for you all to hear it!
Where do you see your music journey headed in the next few years?
I feel my music is constantly evolving and I want that to continue. What really gets my heart racing is thinking about all the amazing songs I have yet to bring to life! And I am assembling a band once this album wraps up, to really hone my skills on stage over the next couple of years. It's all about pushing my limits and becoming the best live performer I can be!
Is there any aspect of your music that we haven't explored yet that you would like to delve into or share insights on?
One thing I'm really proud of when it comes to my music is my music videos. If someone has only listened to my music, I'd really encourage them to check out my videos. I'm amazed at the high-quality production we've achieved, especially considering I'm an independent artist working with limited funds. I think it would pleasantly surprise people.
What advice would you give to upcoming artists trying to find their place in the music industry?
"LOVE THE PROCESS" It's crucial to have a deep love for creating music because achieving fame, fortune, or even just covering your costs in the music industry is really tough.
"GET BANG FOR YOUR BUCK" You'll likely invest a significant amount of money in each project, so ensure you've exhausted all efforts to connect with your audience before moving on to your next release.
How can our readers further immerse themselves in your musical journey and stay connected with you?
